“I want to go to the mission field, eyes wide open. Sometimes, you don’t even know what you don’t know, what questions to ask. These books help raise those insightful questions.”
S. Hoole, future missionary
Mentorship Using Another’s Story
Whether from the Bible or our own lives, we receive mentorship through stories.
When we use a third party’s story, we can approach it together with critical thought. We can disagree with the storyteller without offending our mentor, and our mentor can guide us in finding answers to complex questions we might, otherwise, never have felt free to ask.
Where Shadows Hide the Sun offers us a story with which we can further encourage and equip each other in the faith. It also provides us the chance to experience some of the challenges found in the three stages of missionary life: leaving, being on the field, and coming home.

“Those looking to enter the field will not be given a sugarcoated fantasy of the ‘hero’ missionary, but of the trials, errors, and more importantly, the sustaining love of Jesus.”
